For a manufacturer of specialty chemicals, we implemented a custom designed duplex filter station. The chemicals used are applied among other things in the production of paints and plastics. The objective of this solution is safe and uninterrupted fine filtration under demanding process conditions.
The filter station is equipped with pneumatic switching valves as well as drain valves and operates with two filters. While one filter is actively in operation, the second remains on standby and is ready for use at any time. An integrated differential pressure measurement continuously monitors the condition of the filter element. As soon as the maximum solids loading is reached, the system automatically switches to the second filter. The ongoing process is not interrupted.
The loaded filter is then cleaned automatically. For this purpose, the dirt discharge valve at the bottom of the filter housing opens. Via a separate external media connection, the filter element is flushed using the integrated spray cleaning system and freed from deposited solids.
In this application, fine filtration down to 10 µm is performed on a water based mother liquor with a basic pH value. The separated solids are returned to an upstream process step and reused in the production process. In this way, valuable materials can be efficiently recovered.
The entire filter station is designed for use in an Ex zone. All installed components meet the relevant requirements and are engineered so that no or only very low ignition energy can occur. This ensures safe operation even in potentially explosive areas.
This solution demonstrates how application specific filtration technology from DANGO & DIENENTHAL enables stable processes, automated cleaning and efficient material recovery in the chemical industry.
